A/C leaking water

Fact, all air conditioners create a huge amount of condensation, most of the time through a drain tube. These drain tubes need to be carried away by a small condensate pump or need to go into a floor drain asap. Often times water will be in a little pool at the bottom of the air conditioner, if this is the case something may be leaking, blocking the waters flow or the pump may just be flat out not working.  Here is a list of steps to follow:

A)    Check to see if a tube is leaking. Replace it immediately if that is the case.

B)     You need to test the condensate pump to see if its working by pouring water into the pan it’s in. Check first to make sure it’s plugged in correctly and test the circuit. If the pump then isn’t starting, it’s broken or it’s not receiving power. If broken call to get it repaired or replaced.

C)    If the pump is running but isn’t emptying the pan, the ball like check value just before the discharge tube is most likely stuck. To fix this you need to first unscrew the check valve, loosen the ball inside and look for an obstruction. If the drain tube is clogged with algae; remove it, run a wire through it, and pour a bleach like solution down the pipe to kill the algae.

D)    Another possibility is that ice may be blocking the tube. If this happens first make sure the filter isn’t blocked. If the filter looks ok then the a/c’s refrigerant supply is low and you should call an a/c technician.
